About The Role

Due to internal promotion WWT Slimbridge is seeking a proactive and engaging Living Collection Assistant to help support our Aviculture team as we take our next step forward. We are seeking a candidate who can work well in a team, embrace change and support in the delivery of our wetland messages.

This is a full time permanent position working 5 days out of 7 including some weekends and bank holidays.

Home to the 5 species of flamingo, one of the largest native species aviaries in the UK and a multitude of wonderful wildfowl; the successful candidate will be joining us at a very exciting time. You will supervise the Living Collection Avian exhibits to a high standard, meeting the Zoo License requirements as set by the Secretary of State's Standards of Modern Zoo Practice. You will lead on ensuring that our visitors enjoy excellent experiences by engaging them with our exhibits.

Duties include general care and welfare, exhibition of birds, observing and reporting and breeding and rearing.

About You

The successful candidate will work as part of the Living Collections team with a vast diversity of wetland bird species.  The ideal candidate will have experience of working within the animal industry, preferably with wetland birds. You will have relevant practical animal experience including care, feeding, husbandry and an understanding of modern animal welfare.

A driving license is essential for this role.
