Are you wild about creating memorable experiences?

Do you want to work in a place where you can hear calls from troops of Howler Monkeys, or the roars from a pride of Lions?

Howletts Wild Animal Park is a world class wildlife park and home to a collection of rare and endangered Hoofstock, including Black Rhino, Cape Buffalo and Bongo Antelope – all of which we have reintroduction projects for. Other species on the section include Red River Hog, Giant Anteater, Asian Deer and Capybara.

As an Animal Keeper, you will undertake all duties on the section from general husbandry including cleaning and feeding - ensuring the correct diets are prepared and distributed, as well as enclosure maintenance and record keeping. You will contribute to the enrichment of the specifies on section, as well as observing the behaviour, health, and security of the animals at all times.

When necessary, you will assist with the preparation, distribution, and administration of medication, as well as assist[1]ing with the movement and transport of animals.

Who we are looking for:

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with ungulates in a mainstream zoological collection.

You will need to be confident around all types of Hoofstock with a hands-on approach to the restraint and handling of animals where necessary.

You will have an awareness of current conservation issues and a genuine passion for animal welfare. This is a physically demanding job, and duties will include heavy lifting, as well as enclosure maintenance and browse cutting.

You will be a good communicator with the ability to impart knowledge to the section. Knowledge of health and safety is essential. You must hold a full valid driving licence, and experience of driving agricultural vehicle is an advantage.

Contract details:

Living out allowance is paid in addition to salary. This is a full time, permanent position. Working times are 40 hours per week, five days out of seven, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. This can include weekends and bank holidays. The successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours. A reliable mode of transport is recommended due to our remote location. All applicants must have right to work in the UK.

Why you should join us:

We’re on a mission to create memorable experiences that matter, and our Core Values ‘One Team’, Customer’ and ‘Pride’ are what drive us each day to become part of something extraordinary. As well as walking to work surrounded by the calls of Howler monkeys and the roars from our pride of Lions, you will join a supportive team who are passionate about their place of work.

Be part of the Port Lympne and Howletts family and join our pride.

You can also expect a host of other ‘roarsome’ benefits including:

  • 28 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays, rising with length of service.
  • Comprehensive training and development opportunities, including workshops and e[1]learning.
  • Enhanced Sickness, Maternity and Paternity Policies.
  • Unlimited free entry for you and a person of your choice into both of our parks as well as friends and family tickets.
  • Exceptional discounts on food, retail and accommodation at our parks.
  • Numerous retail discounts and access to a 24-hour counselling line through our Healthy Extras Scheme.
  • Company Pension
  • And many more length or service-related rewards and Benefits.

Your adventure awaits.
