Education Team Leader
Based in the heart of England, Twycross Zoo (TZ) is an award-winning conservation charity and rapidly growing visitor attraction. We’re committed to supporting global welfare and conservation efforts in the captive breeding of endangered species whilst supporting projects from many different countries around the world, including Ape Action Africa, Lola Ya Bonobo and the FFI Cao Vit Gibbon Project.
What will this role of Education Team Leader entail?
Working within our Discovery and Learning team, as the Education Team Leader you will be responsible for the daily management of our Education Team, comprising of Education Officers and Rangers, who deliver our taught programmes, summer clubs and public engagement activities around the zoo.
You will work with the Research, Education and Conservation Manager to develop innovative learning experiences across all areas of the zoo’s operation, including environmental interpretation.
In addition to managing the team and associated resources, you will also deliver curriculum linked taught sessions to schools, colleges and university level groups and our weekend and summer conservation education events.
What will I need to be considered for this Education Team Leader vacancy?
• A degree in a zoo-related or science communication subject, along with proven zoo-based teaching experience • Proven experience supervising a team, preferably within a zoo / public engagement environment • Proven experience conducting conservation education evaluations • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, with good IT literacy and the ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages • A genuine interest in the zoo’s work and purpose, together with a flexible approach to working duties and hours
Although not essential, a teaching qualification and proven experience in handling small animals such as invertebrates is desirable for this role. Please note, successful applicants will need to possess or be willing to obtain a clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) check.
What will I receive in return?
As the Education Team Leader you’ll receive a salary of £22,500, along with fantastic additional benefits including 31 days holiday per annum (inclusive of bank holidays), along with the benefit of a staff membership card, giving you free entry to the Zoo on your days off and discounts in our retail and food outlets. Free onsite parking.
Contract: Permanent, working 9am to 5.30pm, 5 days out of 7, which will include bank holidays and weekends (and occasionally overnight supervision for uniformed groups).
